The Old Mainland denotes the largest connected land form on the world map.
It is the oldest land generation, pre-dating all of the continents and is home to the very oldest builds (and ruins) on the server today.
The first of it was generated in July 2010 on Minecraft version Alpha v1.0.4. At this early time when you generated a new Minecraft world it would randomly be either a regular or a snow world. The Ancient World was a snow world initially, before more chunks were made in a newer Minecraft version.
