Torches on The Ancient World burn out over time and can be re-lit using a flint & steel.

After 24 hours a regular torch will become “un-lit” (converted to a redstone torch). Right clicking the redstone torch with a flint & steel will relight it.

Lanterns & other light blocks can still be used as a permanent light solution.
